The National Man And Van Guild - Membership Information
Whilst there will always be a strong demand for the services of a 'man with a van', the industry does suffer from a tainted reputation due to the minority of Operators who cut corners, prices and service. From a commercial point of view, it is difficult to justify a decent rate for your services when your prices are compared to some of the rogue element in the industry. Of course if these rogues don't have adequate insurance or maintain their vehicles properly, the customer who thought they were getting a good deal won't know until it's too late and you've lost their custom.
The objective of the NMAVG is to allow respectable Operators to compete on a level playing field. If a customer want's to use an Operator who isn't a member then they will know that Operator has declined to accept the reasonable standards that we set out. Put in the customers shoes, which Operator would you then use? Unlike a Government Quango, the NMAVG doesn't want to interfere with your business; we simply want transparency which gives both the consumer and Operator a clear and concise set of expectations. If you check our consumer information page, you will see we try to ensure that the consumer accepts their responsibility for ensuring any transport job goes smoothly.
If you are a respectable Operator, you can enjoy the many benefits of NMAVG membership including:
- A listing in the UK's only online 'Approved Man & Van Directory', to boost your customer enquiries
- Greater credibility and improved customer confidence to help obtain more business
- Rights to use of the NMAVG logo on your vehicles, stationary, website and marketing materials

- A range of exclusive discounts on new vehicles, insurance and other products/services

How many potential Customers could you lose by not being a NMAVG Member?
And another exciting new features which will be available soon...
- Member message board for you to swap ideas, tips and advice with fellow members. This feature will also allow you to post backload notices to minimise journeys when your vehicle is on the road without a load
To join the NMAVG, all we ask is that you adhere to the following standards:
- Your vehicle(s) have a valid MOT certificate and are legally road worthy
- Your vehicle(s) have adequate insurance cover for transporting third-party goods
- That you hold a valid 'goods in transit' insurance policy
- That you and your staff are experienced and trained in handling bulky/heavy goods
- That all goods are handled with the maximum of care to minimise the risk of damage
- That sufficient care is taken when moving goods within the Customers premises
- That you have a clear and defined pricing policy which is confirmed prior to booking
- That a receipt for payment is issued on request
- That you will be courteous, helpful and respectful to all customers
Transporting items around is not rocket science and the above standards should be the minimum any Operator should adopt if they want a successful business.
