Packing and Loading Furniture Properly
As a homeowner, you are critical about your expensive furniture. It may even be priceless, an heirloom of generations past. It is therefore understandable that your piece should not suffer damage when you move to another place.
One of the most critical aspects of relocating is packing and loading your furniture into a mover's van. Proper packing and loading makes unloading easier and ensures that the furniture remain safe.
Before anything else, plan ahead of time the order in which the furniture will be loaded onto the truck. This will save precious time on moving day. Carefully wrap your furniture, focusing on the legs and the largest parts. Bubble wrap is the best option since the wrapper also acts as cushion. Before loading, place rubber protectors at the feet of the furniture.
To move heavy furniture, use a dolly rather than lifting them by hand all the way to the truck. Place the heaviest and largest furniture all the way back, just behind the cab. To avoid scratches, do not to turn any furniture upside down or on its side. Stow it in its proper position. If you are placing a heavy piece on one side of the truck, make sure there is comparably heavy furniture on the other side. This will keep the pieces from tipping over in case the van makes sharp turns. Mattresses should be kept in an upright position to save space. Furniture that can be assembled must be taken apart, labelled, and bound together. If your sofa has removable cushions, detach them and use them as padding for other pieces of furniture such as glass tables. For additional protection, use foam padding.
Your furniture should be in tip-top shape when you arrive at your destination if you follow these simple tips.
